New Scanner
So I finally got myself a scanner that can take medium format film. Oh, and when I say "new scanner" I mean it's new to me. I picked up Canon 8600F scanner at cash converters on the weekend (a well known pawnbroker / dodgy 2nd hand chain here in Australia). This is the push I needed to start investing more in this amazing format.
I've started scanning in some of the negatives I didn't have the patience to stitch together with my Epson V300 (and it's 35mm width film scanning) and it's becoming quickly apparent that I need a better storage and archiving solution for my negatives. I would be very interested to hear from people how they organise / store their physical and digital copies of photos.
Expect to see a lot more medium format photos over the next few months.

I started shooting film in the eighties and have a huge archive. I label the negative sheet with the date and roll number, and each frame that I scan is labeled with date-roll#-frame# (for example 060610-1-37). That number becomes the scanned image’s file name, too.
Negative sleeves are stored in these binder boxes which are flat and can be stacked or put side-by-side on a shelf. http://www.archivalusa.com/f-img.html They are wide enough to hold the 6-frame strip sleeves.
I usually split up the year into two binders, and label the months-year on the spine of each binder. As long as I keep each binder organized, I can find anything I need in just a few minutes.

Once your images are scanned in, how do you organise folders? At the moment I just have folders for the date I did the scan and generic names under that (image001 etc.). From there I use tags in Picasa to enter details like film and camera types. I used to use iPhoto on my laptop, but it has become too bulky and slow with recent updates so I don’t bother with it anymore.
